_____The
Kebra Negast is a compilation of the history and traditions of the Ethopian
Orthodox faith. Orthodox Christianity, although a distant ancestor, is not
to be confused with the present beliefs of modern Rastafarians. The importance
of this work to Rastafarians is that it documents the descent of the Ethiopian
royal lineage directly to King David of Israel. The Kebra Negast explains
the transfer of the authority from Jerusalem to Ethiopia and the existence
of the Israelite "ark of the covenant" in Axum, Ethiopia.
